Save the Date: 2009 caBIG® Annual Meeting
The 2009 caBIG® Annual Meeting, Solving Basic and Clinical Research Challenges in Cancer and Beyond, will take place in Washington, D.C. from Monday, July 20th to Wednesday, July 22nd.
Cutting edge translational research projects, made possible through the use of caBIG® tools and technology, will be spotlighted. Multiple tracks of presentations will cover a range of topics from managing microarray expression data and biospecimen collection in support of basic research to the design and management of adaptive clinical trials. A separate track of technical presentations will cover deployment and customization of IT infrastructure to support basic and clinical research projects. Case studies and experiences from the cancer community, including the NCI Cancer Centers and National Community Cancer Centers Program, will be highlighted.
Registration and hotel information will be available in April, and an exciting program is currently under development-stay tuned for more details!
caBIG® Community Members Publish Paper in Molecular Cancer Research
Last month, a paper written by members of the caBIG® community was published in the peer-reviewed journal Molecular Cancer Research. The article profiles Repository of Molecular Brain Neoplasia Data (Rembrandt), a cancer clinical genomics database and a Web-based data mining and analysis platform aimed at facilitating discovery by correlating clinical information and genomic characterization data, and using sophisticated computational tools, to see patterns and discover new biomarkers.
The manuscript explains how access to large sample sets and inconsistent collection and annotation methods can be barriers to productive research, and how these challenges are addressed by caBIG®, which allows the easy integration, redistribution, and analysis of data within and across functional domains.
Authors include Subha Madhavan (NCI CBIIT), Jean-Claude Zenklusen (NCI CCR, Neuro-Oncology Branch), Yuri Kotliarov (NCI CCR, Neuro-Oncology Branch ), Himanso Sahni (SAIC), Howard A. Fine (NCI CCR, Neuro-Oncology Branch), and Ken Buetow (NCI CBIIT).

Upcoming Events
Bio-IT World Conference and Expo 2009
April 27-29, 2009
Boston, MA
Attendees at this year's Bio-IT World conference will learn how caBIG® tools and technologies allow data to be integrated and shared across multiple disciplines, across multiple institutions, in multiple formats. Sessions throughout the program will discuss how caBIG® interoperability and standards standards and interoperability are advancing research and clinical care, and visitors to the caBIG® booth and will learn how caBIG® tools and infrastructure can solve challenges at the bench, the bedside, or between the two.
