Facilitating Collaborative Research and Discovery: caBIG® in Action in Utah
See how caBIG® is making translational research possible at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah. The latest caBIG® in Action video highlights the use of caBIG® tools and technology to bring discoveries from the bench to bedside. "It's really important for us to be able to bring the discoveries from our cancer center as quickly as possible to clinical applications so we can really have an impact on patient care," notes Mary Beckerle, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Huntsman Cancer Institute. caBIG® connects researchers and clinicians in such a way that there is an immediate and positive impact on patient care. By utilizing data collected by the Utah cancer registry, caBIG® is linking genetic and clinical information for 85 percent of cancer patients in the state and helping researchers achieve the goal of practicing personalized medicine. caBIG® helps researchers at Huntsman focus on the impact, not the ownership, of data, allowing them to work more collaboratively towards their mission of improving strategies for cancer detection, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
