caBIG® Knowledge Centers Debut at World's Fair
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) launched the caBIG® Enterprise Support Network (ESN) to assist with the adoption and adaptation of caBIG® tools, standards, and infrastructure in biomedical research. Integral to the ESN are six Knowledge Centers-outside organizations that act as Web-based, centralized authorities on specific domains-that will be introduced at the 2008 caBIG® World's Fair.
Knowledge Centers provide the resources, expertise, and support to drive broader implementation of caBIG® tools, standards, and infrastructure across:
- Tissue/Biospecimen Banking and Technology Tools
- Clinical Trials Management Systems
- Molecular Analysis Tools
- caGrid
- Vocabulary
- Data Sharing and Intellectual Capital
In addition to streamlining and expediting the adoption/adaptation of caBIG® tools and infrastructure, Knowledge Centers will collect reports and feature requests from users of caBIG® technologies, and they will foster continual open source development by the caBIG® community. Most importantly, they will offer unparalleled expertise in a given domain and will be available to mentor and guide end-users and organizations as they travel the road to caBIG® compatibility.
The resources of each caBIG® Knowledge Center will be Web-accessible and will include a searchable caBIG® Knowledge Base related to the specific technologies in their domain and their implementation for solving real-life problems. The 2008 World's Fair is the perfect place to "Get Connected" to this valuable new resource!
