Director's Note
Dear colleagues in the caBIG™ community,
2008 is already shaping up to be a year in which new solutions for accelerating biomedicine are emerging from the adoption of caBIG™ tools and infrastructure. Each day, more organizations and individuals are asking about caBIG™ and how it can address their research challenges. Desire for a pathway to adoption or "adaption" of tools to achieve caBIG™-compatibility soon follows.
In the marketplace of ideas, I see caBIG™ winning over more and more adherents, and your continued hard work and dedication help to make this possible.
As you know, in the "Enterprise Phase" we are working toward:
- Widespread adoption of caBIG™ interoperable infrastructure throughout NCI-designated Cancer Centers. As of January 30th, 43 Cancer Centers and 16 Community Cancer Centers have formally signed on to a carefully choreographed process to achieve caBIG™ interoperability. Resources to promote caBIG™ interoperability for these Cancer Centers – and any other interested research organization – are available at https://cabig.nci.nih.gov/.
- Formation of an Enterprise Support Network to diversify and broaden access to caBIG™ knowledge and expertise.
- Engagement with a broader community of government, academic, and private sector entities to create an "ecosystem" of those who will adopt caBIG™, further develop it, and provide compatible software, services and support.
As we continue to reach out to potential adopters in an effort to build our community, we will be sure to provide you with the latest updates and appropriate services. I look forward to hearing about all of your experiences as you strive for connectivity, and to updating you about our milestones.
With best regards,
Dr. Kenneth Buetow
