caBIG® and Australia

“Cancer research is conducted on a global basis, and it is imperative that we build IT networks that will expand our understanding of international trends in clinical informatics.” – Rob Merriel, BioGrid Australia

Background

BioGrid Australia is a not-for-profit virtual repository that links participating teaching hospitals and cancer research centers in Victoria province and throughout Australia. The platform provides researchers with access to clinical outcomes data, genomic data, images, and analytical tools.

BioGrid technology allows encrypted transmission of securely held data to authorized users. It uses a federated design in which the data is stored at the owner’s institution and can only be accessed with the appropriate authorization.

About the Partnership

Committed to overcoming the challenges associated with inaccessible data, caBIG® and BioGrid Australia are uniting to share common practices and ideas for facilitating data interoperability. Both programs seek to promote collaborative research efforts in order to speed research and improve patient care.
